Role Overview
VersAbility Resources is seeking a passionate and motivated Employment Specialist to help individuals with disabilities achieve and maintain meaningful employment in their communities.

This role combines job coaching, advocacy, vocational training, employer engagement, and individualized support to help individuals build skills, gain independence, and succeed in competitive integrated employment. The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with people, building relationships in the community, solving problems, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. This position offers variety, flexibility, and the opportunity to work throughout the Hampton Roads region supporting individuals in real-world work environments.

What You'll Do

  • Provide ongoing employment support, advocacy, and job coaching to individuals with disabilities
  • Train individuals using vocational rehabilitation techniques, systematic instruction, and positive behavioral supports
  • Assist individuals in developing workplace behavioral and social skills needed for employment success
  • Develop and maintain Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and document progress toward goals
  • Provide transportation training and employment-related support services
  • Coordinate activities and support at community employment sites
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers, referral sources, schools, and community partners
  • Educate employers and coworkers on workplace inclusion and support strategies
  • Assist with job development and creating employment opportunities within the community
  • Collect data, maintain records, and complete required reports and documentation
  • Support licensing, funding, and compliance requirements
  • Provide hands-on support during days, evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed
  • Perform other duties related to supporting individuals in employment settings

    Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required, bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of one year of experience providing employment-related services to individuals with disabilities
  • Experience in job coaching, vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, behavioral support, or human services preferred
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and technology platforms
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required
  • Ability to travel throughout Hampton Roads and surrounding areas
  • Supported Employment certification is a plus

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements
    This position primarily operates in community-based employment settings rather than a traditional office environment. Work may occur at businesses, schools, workforce development sites, and employer locations throughout Hampton Roads.

The role requires frequent travel, prolonged driving, standing, walking, job coaching, and supporting individuals in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and adapt to changing schedules, worksites, and participant needs.

Schedule
This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm, 40 hours a week. Candidates must be flexible, as schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional hours to support the needs of individuals served and employer requirements.
