Staff Services Officer


Peak Performers is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Services Officer to support crucial daily operations within a fast-paced state division.
 
In this role, you will serve as a key technical and administrative point of contact for internal staff while navigating HR, payroll, purchasing, timekeeping, and proprietary IT systems while keeping high-priority operational deadlines on track.
 
Who You Will Be Working With
You will be joining a specialized state health and human services division that partners with federal authorities to process medical disability claims and deliver vital public benefits to thousands of citizens across the state.
 
Major Duties
  • Operational & Administrative Support: Manage daily office activities, including creating work orders, managing supply inventory, maintaining filing systems, taking meeting notes, and handling phone/reception coverage.
  • HR & Payroll Assistance: Track staff eligibility for monetary recognition, monitor leave accounting via spreadsheets, and guide unit managers through administrative policies related to promotions, postings, leave, and payroll.
  • Technical & IT Subject Matter Expert: Act as the primary internal resource for agency-specific networks, time-and-labor tracking software, and vendor processes.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Compile, format, and analyze personnel performance metrics and operational statistics to support leadership decision-making.
  • Budget Support: Assist directorate leaders with routine accounting, purchasing requests, and budget tracking tasks.
 
What You Bring 
  • Experience in office management principles, administrative procedures, and basic budgeting/HR practices.
  • Experience navigating public sector or state/federal agency workflows is highly valued.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to comfortably adapt to proprietary state and federal database systems.
  • Prioritization & Pressure: Proven ability to manage multiple shifting priorities and deliver accurate work under tight deadlines.
  • Communication & Discretion: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a firm commitment to handling sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Problem-Solving & Data Tracking: Strong analytical skills with a track record of identifying operational issues, gathering data, and recommending solutions.
 
Opportunity Details
  • Pay Rate: $28.00 / hour
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Location: On-site – South Austin
  • Duration: 1+ year (with strong potential for future extensions)
  • Clearance Requirement: Requires Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD)-12 security clearance eligibility. This is an 85-page process requiring approximately 2 hours.
