Job Summary and Qualifications

Role Summary:

Responsible for communications into and within the hospital by use of the telephone switchboard, pagers, and public address systems. Primary focus of the job is to respond quickly and courteously to all incoming calls and to route these calls to the proper extension and properly respond to and follow procedures for emergency codes. 

What qualifications you will need:

* High School Diploma/GED

* Preferred Experience 6 months experience in a hospital setting

* Two night time 12 hour shifts per week, 7p-7a rotating

Essential Accountabilities:

Performance Criteria:

 Provides communication services, both internally and externally for the entire hospital system and community.

1. To achieve customer satisfaction, operators must provide an overall Service Level of 85%,meeting individual performance goals for DN Talk % of

2. Receive and facilitate the communication of all emergency and code calls in accordance with hospital policy and procedure

3. Operate the public address system for identified situations per hospital policy.

4. Place long distance calls for patients and staff as required.

5. Handle patient information requests within compliance guidelines.

6. Ensure patient safety by contacting On Call Person as designated by hospital policy and direction.

Performance Criteria:

Maintains documentation of all code calls and unusual occurrences to ensure patient and staff safety.

1. Ensure adherence to policy regarding code calls by handling and documenting all code calls in detail in designated log books and provide additional information as required.

2. Ensure adherence to all legal/risk policies by handling and documenting all unusual occurrences in designated logbooks according to procedures and provide additional information as required.

Performance Criteria:

Monitors alarm systems within switchboard area to assure prompt response to all emergencies.

1. To assure prompt response must handle all alarms by correct protocol.

2. To assure prompt response must identify and document all problems per policy.

3. To assure prompt response must utilize paging system and overhead page as required assuring proper response to alarms.

Performance Criteria:

Demonstrates customer services skills and team player attitudes to meet departmental goals.

1. Displays a friendly attitude and offers help to customers and coworkers.

2. Demonstrates ability to handle difficult situations with sensitivity and in accordance departmental standards.

3. Demonstrates ability and willingness to be flexible to meet departmental needs.
